Tip of the Day:  If you happen to be driving through a National Park and you see a bunch of cars off to the side of the road?  PULL OVER!  :)  You just might see something like this.

We had the lucky fortune to catch a mama bear and her cubs strolling along a stretch of road as we drove through Kootenay National Park in British Columbia.  There's a third cub you can't see in this pic (I was driving...my husband and daughter got the better views...), but it was just so amazing to see, in person and (more or less) up close.

And it got me wondering about animals in stories.  Do you have any in yours?  I mention a neighbor's dog in passing in my current WiP, but that's about it.  But, if you think about it...they're kind of everywhere.  Chances are...your MC would run into an animal/bird/fish/etc. at some point.  Right?  :)  Some find the story Friday food for thought.

And with that ~ hope you all have a WONDERFUL weekend!!  I just found out that I get to meet fellow blogger and sister-from-another-mister Donna Weaver at my crit bootcamp tomorrow.  Woo hoo!

This is awesome! I've never seen a real bear before (except at the zoo, of course).

Amazing photo! Another tip - don't get out of car around mother bear and cubs, either.
And sorry, no critters in my books.

Amazing!!! What a sight.

Gotta have a dog in every story!

Wow, three cubs! Isn't that unusual for bears? Pretty darn cool. I have lots of animals in my WIP~ hippos being the frontrunner.

Have fun at your bootcamp with Donna!

Awesome pic! I've never seen a live, uncaged bear - saw a moose this summer, but that's as wild as I get.

No animals in my work, but maybe there needs to be...

Fantastic pic!

My first novel features many animals:butterflies, hummingbirds, and an overgrown black rabbit with opalescent eyes. When writing fantasy animals play and important part along with fairies, elves, dwarfs, etc.

Lucky you that you get to go to writer's boot camp and meet a fellow blogger!

I leave in two weeks for Canada and along the way I plan to meet Hart Johnson.

I have posted pic also today of the lakefront in Chicago. Also have an excerpt of my most recent novel if you get the chance to pop over.

Have a GREAT weekend.

Cute! (as long as that mother doesn't go into a rage and attack the cars LOL) Great point about animals in our novels. Most people DO have pets and stuff, or at least see birds fly overhead, right? ;o) I was planning on giving my supporting character a cat in my new WIP, so I guess that counts.

Great picture!

I mention birds a few times . . . but I can't think of any others right off the top of my head.

Our former photo club president used to always get after us to carry a camera in the car, because you just never know!

Last time we saw cars pulled over there were elk just on the side of the road. I got a pretty good picture of one of them although I haven't decided what I am going to do with it yet. And mama bear and bear cubs sometimes frequent the camp grounds around here. That's where I saw a group last time. No pics though. :(

Amazing photo! But I wouldn't dare get out of the car if I see anything like this! :(

How fun! My characters run into some wild camels on their road trip (there actually is a herd of them in West Texas). I love putting random animals in my stories. :)

Cool! There are have been sightings of Mexican black bears here where we live in Texas. They are leaving their usual haunts in search of water and are showing up in populated areas!

As for animals in my stories, all the time.
