Need a Writing Snack? J.K. suggests potato crisps...

So, as I was considering recipes for today's Mood Munchies Monday ~ I wondered what foods some of my favorite authors turned to when they get those nagging tummy rumbles.

I think J.K. Rowling had a great explanation for one of her go-to snack foods when writing.  I found a quote about it HERE.

"“When I write, sophisticated foods are difficult to eat one-handed. Crisps (potato chips) are good,” she said.

Now, I suppose you could just run to the store and pick up some of these:

But, I wonder if Ms. Rowling had something more like this in mind:

Depends on if I feel like cooking or not - but, either yummy option can be eaten with one hand.  But, if you'd like to begin one creative venture by dabbling in another (cooking IS an art form!!), here's a recipe for Herbed Potato Crisps:

Ingredients:

- 3 large potatoes
- 2 T. oil
- 1/2 t. fresh ground pepper
- 1/2 t. oregano
- 1/2 t. thyme
- 1/2 t. sage
- 1/2 t. rosemary
- celery and garlic salt to taste

What you do:

*Preheat oven to high temp.  Clean and cut unpeeled potatoes into thin slices.  Place on well-oiled cookie sheets.  Brush all slices well with oil and mixed herbs.  Bake for about 20 minutes or until potatoes are well-browned and crisp.  Sprinkle with combined salts (if desired) and serve.  OR eat one-handed as you write... :)

Who knows...?  The next time you're hunkered down writing, pop of few chips/potato crisps in your mouth.  What you write as you eat just might be the next world-wide sensation to hit print!  (Never hurts to try....right?)

What's your favorite writing snack?

Happy Writing!

Chocolate is my fave. Chocolate-covered espresso beans, to be exact. Although chips will do in a pinch any time! (Now I'm hungry)

Those look amazing! I like to snack on cereal. Casadian Farms makes a yummy fruit loop type cereal (less sugar and chemicals) and I like cinnamon graham types too. And of course there's popcorn....

um, yum! Those look to die for. I go with candy while I'm writing. Usually gobstoppers. They last longer and I love crunching them while I'm thinking. I'll polish off a whole box and then get a headache. But it helps me concentrate on my writing for some reason ;p

Fellow crusader following you back. (Finally!) I had an operation and have been in the bed with my pillow pet. :) Thanks for the great recipe. Pasted and will try it as soon as I get better. My favorite writing snack? Anything that has chocolate on the wrapper. :)

Hi Donea! I wanted to stop by and let you know that I featured your blog on my latest "Who do I love?" blog post. I used an excerpt from one of your posts as a sample of your style. Should you want me to take it down for whatever reason, just shoot me an e-mail and I'll remove it ASAP.

It's just my way of saying 'thanks' for being a follower. (And that I enjoy your blog!)

One-handed snacks are indeed the way to go. I like the recipe posted and I think I have to try it. I stick to not greasy, not messy stuff like peanut M&Ms. ;)

Love this recipe. So tempted to go and make them right now. But I don't even have a single potato chiop in the house. Must remedy that, I suspect. :D Maybe if I eat like J.K. I'll write like her too?

I hardly ever eat when I write - sometimes 'good an plenty' or red hots. I don't get hungry while I write - I will eat if something shows up on my desk (thank you family for feeding me) but I never go seek food.
I know I am hungry when I start getting descriptive of the meals the people in the story are eating - Lol. Over all here's what they ate, is fine, but if I have three long blocks of the description (and not useing it to descibe a raunch-esque delight) about how yummy the glop is, heheheh- I am starving!

I could never eat and write. I would do more eating than writing. lol

Thanks for the recipe. My family will enjoy those.

My favorite munchy while writing used to be anything chocolate. Now it is raw veggies.
